Kano State Investment and Properties Limited popularly known as KSIP is a development finance Company wholly owned by the Government of Kano State of Nigeria. The Kano state investment and property (KSIP), was established under the company and allied matters decree of 1971, as a limited company with the mandate of promoting commercial and industrial activity in the state. Kano State Government exercises its exclusive right in the appointment of governing Board and the Managing Director. The Company was reorganized in 1976 (subsequent to the Al-Hakim Commission of Inquiry into Kano State Government owned institutions and companies) in order to put the company in a better position to serve the purpose for which it is formed. The name of the company was later changed to the present KSIP in 1978 to reflect the greater responsibilities assigned to the company by the State Government. With the creation of Jigawa State out of former Kano State in 1991, the Assets of KSIP was splinted into two between Kano and Jigawa on the ratio of 54/46 percent. KSIP maintain a good working relationship with other organs of the State Government, especially the ministry of finance, which is the supervising ministry. Its areas of Operation include the following:
Promotion of industrial and commercial activities in the state through facilitation of direct equity investment and assistance to entrepreneurs engaged in industry, commerce, agriculture etc.
Equity investment in quoted and unquoted companies in all sectors of Nigerian economy.
Stock trading activities and capital market activities.
Property development.
Commercial Venture activities.
Investment facilitation and entrepreneurship advocacy.
Governance and management structure
Gorverning Board
The KSIP's topmost policy making body (Board of Directors) is shouldered with the responsibilities of setting strategic goals and objectives of the company, oversees its management and operations.
The Board is chaired by a political appointee of the Government, the MD, the permanent Secretary ministry of finance, representatives of some selected ministries and other political appointees of the Government are members. The Company Secretary of KSIP serves as the Secretary to the board.
